Bell Ringing at St Mary's 

Young ringers at our Youth Ringing Day

St Mary's has 12 magnificent bells, cared for and rung by the Saffron Walden Society of Change Ringers. We are a lively and sociable society who continue the tradition of ringing in the town, maintain the bells and teach new ringers.

Bells have been rung in Saffron Walden since at least 1440, and we are committed to ensuring this long tradition continues for generations to come.

Regular ringing

• Sunday service ringing: 9.45am–10.30am
• Tuesday practice night: 7.30pm–9.00pm

The bells are rung for many other occasions throughout the year, including choral evensong, other special services and weddings. We also ring for civic events such as New Year’s Eve, royal celebrations and anniversaries of significant historical events. We offer extra practices for new learners or to help experienced ringers develop their skills.

Our experienced ringers are happy to support learners of all ages, whether you are a complete beginner or looking to return to the hobby.
