We’re a friendly bunch of men from Saffron Walden and its surrounding villages. We welcome newcomers to our pub lunches, walks (with a pub lunch after), breakfasts and suppers.
So do please come along to one of our events. The dates and times for the next ones are below. All our events include a meal as its a great way of getting to know others. And if you want to know more please contact us.
Events scheduled for the next 2 months
For the two breakfasts we have each year we have coffee or tea beforehand from 8.15am the King's Arms in Market Hill. At 8.30am around 24 of us sit down to a cooked breakfast and a good chat. Then at about 9.30am we enjoy listening to a speaker for 20 minutes or so. After questions and answers we always finish at 10am latest. There is a modest charge for the breakfast. About a month before a breakfast we publicise it and ask people to sign up at the back of St. Mary’s church or via phone or email to Robin Betser if interested - firstname.lastname@example.org 01223 891 385
'Oasis' Men's Monthly Lunches
Men's lunchtime get-togethers will recommence under the new name of "Oasis" on Wednesday 6th October (being the first Wednesday of the month), from 12noon, at The Old English Gentleman in Gold Street, Saffron Walden which is said to offer easier access for those of us who are less mobile. All welcome as before, but I have had to make a provisional booking so will those interested in coming please let me know by Monday 4th. I look forward to hearing from you. Bill Rose (tel: 516609. email: email@example.com)
On the 1st Wednesday of each month twelve or so of us meet at 12.00pm in the Old English Gentleman pub in Gold Street Saffron Walden.
Over an hour or so we enjoy a pub lunch, a drink and each other’s company. It’s simple, totally informal, no agenda, no strings and no tab but let Bill know by the Monday before so that he can book tables - Bill Rose (tel: 516609. email: firstname.lastname@example.org). A reminder is usually posted in our Grapevine newsletter the Sunday before.
For our three suppers a year around ten men meet in a local restaurant (7 for 7.30pm) for supper. Each supper is on a different day of the week and we’ve previously visited traditional pubs and Chinese and Indian restaurants. About a month before a supper we publicise it and ask people to sign up via a sheet at the back of St. Mary’s church or by phone or email. That way we book enough places at the restaurant and co-ordinate lifts to and from out-of-town venues. Contact Robin Betser if interested - email@example.com 01223 891 385
Around six times a year we gather together at 10am on a Saturday below the tower of St. Mary’s Church Saffron Walden. We then share car lifts to the start of our walk. Our walks are around six miles in the countryside and they finish with a pub lunch. Those who can’t make the walk often meet us at the pub for lunch. You should count on the walk involving some hills, muddy uneven terrain and fields with animals as well as stiles to climb over and overhanging vegetation to pass under. So you’ll need to wear suitable footwear and have some wet weather gear you can put on if it rains. If you haven’t joined us before then please do come along, or if you are a regular then invite a friend.
