We will be opening the doors of the Parish Rooms from 3.30 till 5.30 on Wednesdays, to children that are in Year 7 upwards – high school aged; oBering them a warm space to come and hang with their friends, make new friends, and play tabletop games. We will also be oBering toast and hot drinks, and a quiet corner if needed.
We hope to have a few volunteers to help us with this, with two helping at every session.
-
We would like a kitchen volunteer, to make toast and drinks, and wash up after.
-
A general volunteer to help as required.
The Youth leader or Assistant Youth Leader will be present and have full responsibility for the session and will support all volunteers.
See below for a detailed description for both roles; both involve working with young people and will require going through the safer recruitment process, which means providing two references, completing a DBS declaration and some online safeguarding training.
Kitchen volunteer
We need a volunteer to run the kitchen during our Youth drop-in session. You will need to be free on Wednesdays from 15:15 to 18:00.
-
You will need to be able to independently make hot drinks, squash, toast (and possibly toasted sandwiches in the future).
-
You will need to wash up as required and to clean the kitchen · Training can be provided but prior knowledge would be handy.
General volunteer
-
This will be to supervise the young people that attend the drop in.
-
You would be there to keep an eye out for safety reasons, like ensuring that they do not access any of the staircases.
-
You will be there in case of emergencies and to help with an evacuation or lock down should either incident happen.
-
The young people will be encouraged to clear their own plates and cups back to a serving table, but you may be needed to assist with this.
-
You would be welcome to assist the young people with anything they ask, within reason, e.g. playing a boardgame or card game with them, helping with a homework question or answering questions about faith or our church. All of these are entirely optional, and any such request can be deferred to a youth leader in the area.
-
To be available from 15:15 to 18:00 on a Wednesday.
Contact Julie on stmaryschildrenandyouth@gmail.com if you would like to volunteer with us.
