The
Revd
David Tomlinson, the new rector for
Saffron Walden took up his post as Team Rector for the Saffron Walden
Team
Ministry on Sunday 21st September. A keen
cricketer and a West Ham
supporter, his institution and induction by the Bishop of Colchester,
The Right
Reverend Christopher Morgan was at 5.00p.m. in St Mary’s
Church, Saffron
Walden.
David
with his wife Jenny,
who is also an ordained
priest, and their two daughters moved into Saffron Walden Rectory
recently from
Grays in South Essex. They have been spending time getting familiar
with the
area and settling in.
David
had a variety of jobs
in his twenties before
training for ordination. He worked in Whitehall as a civil servant. Two
years
teaching mathematics and preaching in the local churches in a remote
Ugandan
village followed. On his return, he took up a post at a school in North
London. |
David
went to theological college
at Ridley Hall,
Cambridge, where he met Jenny who was by then in her third year. Jenny
read
history at university. She then spent six years living in Surrey, where
she
worked in NHS management before training for ordination. In June 1993,
after
David had finished his training, they were married. They worked in
neighbouring
parishes in Godalming, near Guildford where their two daughters were
born.
Grays in South Essex was the setting for their next phase of ministry.
David
was a Vicar and Area Dean of Thurrock for five years. Jenny combined
parish
ministry with work as healthcare chaplain for the local Primary Care
Trust.
David enjoys playing
cricket, as a left-handed
batsmen and wicketkeeper, playing as frequently as he can for the
diocese of
Chelmsford. Through thick and thin, he has supported West Ham Football
club for
over 40 years. His other interests include cooking, walking, reading
and films.
Jenny enjoys gardening, reading, and music, especially singing.
David said "We are delighted

very grateful for the warm welcome that we've received. We look forward
to
getting to know people, and to all that God has in store in the coming
years."
The previous rector Reverend
Canon Duncan Green
left Saffron Walden in October 2007 following his appointment as Church
of
England Co-ordinator for the Olympics and Paralympics for London 2012. |
