Help at Special Times : Healing
The healing ministry of the
church reflects Jesus’ concern and promise for the whole person, body, mind and
spirit. In his own ministry, Jesus gave high priority to healing the sick. This
finds expression in our ministry at St. Mary’s.
There are three
opportunities each month to receive prayer for healing and the laying on of
hands:
- First Sunday at the 10am
service
Members of the Healing
Fellowship are available at the back of the church to pray with you after you
have received Communion.
- First Thursday 1.00pm
A short healing service,
about 20 minutes, to pray for personal needs and those of the world.
- Fourth Sunday 6.30pm (4.00pm in winter)
In a simple setting,
following the evening Eucharist, people are invited to come forward
individually. There is no need to say anything unless so desired. As the
ministers lay hands upon you and bless you, the rest of the congregation will
uphold you in silent prayer. You may also receive this ministry on behalf of
someone else who is not present.

Healing Fellowship
This is a group of about 25
people who are committed to pray as requested, for the sick and those in any
kind of trouble. The group usually meets on the first Wednesday of each month
following the 9.30am Eucharist, to pray together for healing.

Telephone
Prayer-Chain
This is a quick way of
circulating requests for prayer to members of the Healing Fellowship who will
then pray daily.

Written
Messages You may leave requests in
the Blue Book in the North Chapel, which is used daily by the clergy. In
addition, in the South aisle, by the Chapel of Remembrance, there is a board on
which you may pin messages asking for prayer.
 Candles
You are welcome to light a
candle on the stand by the Chapel of Remembrance on behalf of yourself or
someone for whom you are concerned. Sometimes it is difficult to know how to
pray, but the candle symbolises to God all that is in your heart.

Personal Visits
If you would like someone
to come and pray with you privately, please contact the Parish Office, who will
put you in touch with members of the congregation who have been authorised by
the clergy to offer prayers and the laying on of hands. Alternatively, speak to
one of the clergy who will be happy to help you.

O God, always present,
You want happiness
And not sorrow,
And you suffer
With all who suffer
On this earth.
You welcome whoever comes to you
With all their burdens
And it is as if everywhere,
In every place,
You received them into
A brother’s house.
When we let you welcome us
The eyes of our soul perceive,
Beyond our own confusion,
A reflection of the Christ of glory,
The Risen Lord.
For we are brought back to life
Each time
The confidence of Christ Jesus
Shines forth in us.
Jesus said:
“Come to me, all you who are
weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 |
