Junior Choir

The Junior Choir practises on a number of Friday evenings from 6.30 to 8.15pm. Once new members are confident enough they are asked to come on Sundays. They sing on a number of Sundays, but not all, and at some choral evensongs, as shown as 'full choir' in the current choir schedule - see below. The juniors are paid for practices and services.
The choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music and the members work through the ribbon tests to attain seniority, which is reflected in the remuneration that they receive. Several have gone on to gain the Bishop's Chorister award. We have recently sung at Salisbury Cathedral. [see The Diocese of Chelmsford - Music - Bishops' Chorister Award and The Royal School of Church Music ]
Regular social events are organised for members of the Junior Choir.
If you would like to find out more then please contact Anna Martin on 501927. |

Junior Choir visit to Wicksteed Park.

On the 29th of May 2010 the St. Mary’s junior choir and some relatives went to Wickstead Park. Some went in their own cars, however most travelled on the minibus. When we got there we ate our lunch then looked at the map to see where to go. We decided the first ride to go on was the pirate swing-boat. This wasn’t a water ride but we still all got very wet due to the rain! Most of us enjoyed the ride but none of us as much as junior choir member Evonne Baltrock who seemed to be having the time of her life. |
We then moved on to a laser quest which we all found fun even if some couldn’t work the guns. Next we moved on to the water section of the park which included rides like small motor boats and log flumes, after which we were all soaked, so went to a different section where some of the older people enjoyed racing around in the go-karts with the younger passengers. We also went on another log flume and got even wetter. For most of us this log flume was the best ride and some of us were so wet we had to use the dryer.
Then we decided it was best to go and dry off with a hot drink in the café where we had a group photo of the trip.
Overall it was a very fun day and a great trip out for the junior choir. It was also a nice way to say goodbye to junior choir member Emma Bevan, who, sadly, was leaving us after the trip. A big thank you to Mr Martin for driving the minibus and to Mrs Martin for organizing the trip for us.
Matthew Jones, Junior choir member.
Junior Choir Hot Dogs
 |
The hot dog stall at this year’s fair was again a great success. Junior choir members, along with Jim Butler and Toby Prevost, barbequed, served and plied for customers. Most people came for an early lunch, others a mid-morning snack and even a few for a second breakfast. Some customers came back for seconds and by the end of the morning they had sold out.

[Note from Noel Starr: this year the hot dogs contributed over £100 to the Summer Fair total. This was the best ever. Well done and many thanks, Junior Choir]
