Members of Saint Mary's church are currently involved in the following activities:

Bell ringers: St Mary's Society of Change Ringers of Saffron Walden

Bible study groups There are a number of informal groups that meet at different times of the week for prayer and bible study.

Julian Group "We meet on every second Tuesday of the month at The Priory, Common Hill,. for a short reading, half an hour's meditation / contemplation (in silence,) then discussion. We begin at 7.30 and close at 9pm." Contact Tessa Hawkes, 01799 523888

Parish Magazine The Parish Magazine is published monthly and can be delivered to your door or bought from the back of the Church.  It costs 30p and contains articles and information about services and Church activities.

Parish Room (bookings) The Parish Room is available for hire for functions and meetings.

Pram Service A very informal service followed by toys and coffee for toddlers/babies and their carers at 2pm on Tuesdays in term time in the Parish Room

Servers

Sewing Circle "We meet every Monday Morning at 9.30 to stitch and sew the church kneelers and occassionally alter frontals, banners, curtains etc. Also we make things to sell at the summer fete and the Christmas Market. contact Tessa Hawkes, 01799 523888

Social Car Service A team of drivers transport elderly, disabled or others for local journeys where public transport is not available.  New passengers and new drivers welcomed. Contact Ruby Parsons Tel: 01799 501381

Stewardship We are a Stewardship Church which means that the regular congregation are committed in their support through their regular and planned financial giving as well as by the dedication of their time and talents.

Sunday Club This meets at 10.00 a.m. in the Parish Room beside the Church every Sunday except the fourth Sunday of the month.  Children aged 3-12 are very welcome.

 

Women's Own - meet for one hour on a Saturday morning, for fun, food, fellowship and faith. Also for a Quiet Day. Contact Judith Felgate 01799 524747 or Margaret Taylor  01799 500292 for more information.

Youth groups: (See also Young People)

  • Brownies meet on Tuesdays at 4.45 p.m. in the Parish Room.

  • Aftershock is a youth club for 12+ on a Sunday. It runs every week 18.30-20.00, down stairs in the Parish Rooms. It is run by Debbie Rhodes, Tracy Nicholls and Robert Flitney.

  • Shockwaves meets Wednesday from 6.00p.m.-7.30 p.m. An evening of fun activities for 10-13 year-olds in the Parish Room. Contact Theresa Pitts '513805

  • Sunday school
  • Youth Worker Debbie Rhodes
  • The Junior Choir practice on Fridays 6.30-8.15 and are also involved in social activities. Young people are also strongly represented in St Mary's Brass and instrumentalist groups: see St Mary's Music Association for details.
