Healing is central to the Christian message and reflects Jesus’ concern and promise for the whole person: body, mind and spirit. We read in the gospels how Jesus gave high priority to healing the sick and we seek to echo this in the life of our community.
There are three opportunities each month to receive prayer for healing:
- On the first Sunday of the month at the 10am service members of the Prayer Ministry Team are available at the back of church during Communion to pray for yourself or someone you are concerned about;
- A short service of prayers for healing is held on the first Thursday of the month in the South Chapel at 1pm;
- A service of Holy Communion with prayers for wholeness and healing takes place on the fourth Sunday at 6.30pm (4.00pm in winter).
At these last two services people are invited to come to the altar individually for prayer for themselves or someone they are concerned about. As the ministers lay hands upon them and pray for them, quiet music plays and the rest of the congregation supports them in silent prayer.
Members of the Healing Fellowship are committed to pray as requested, for people who are sick or in any kind of trouble. They usually meet on the first Wednesday of each month following the 9.30am Eucharist, to pray together for healing. There is a telephone prayer chain to circulate request for prayer to members of the Healing Fellowship who will then pray daily.
You are welcome to light a candle on the stand by the Chapel of Remembrance on behalf of yourself or someone for whom you are concerned. Sometimes it is difficult to know how to pray, but the candle is a way of expressing to God what’s in your heart. Nearby there is also a board on which you may pin written messages asking for prayer.
Please contact us if you would like someone to come and pray with you privately. We will put you in touch with members of the Prayer Ministry Team who are authorised to offer prayers and the laying on of hands. Alternatively, speak to one of the clergy who will be happy to help you.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
Jesus our Healer, we place into your gentle hands those who are sick.
Ease their pain and heal the damage done to them in body, mind or spirit.
Be present to them through the support of friends and in the care of doctors and nurses,
And fill them with the warmth of your love now and always. Amen
