Saffron Walden Deanery Celebrated 140 years of the foundation of the Mother’s Union on Ascension Day on May 5th 2016.
Mary Sumner’s vision to assist Mother’s and families began in a small way in 1876 in the rural Parish of Old Arlesford Winchester but is now a worldwide organisation serving families in 83 countries throughout the world. The new Mother’s Union President of Chelmsford Diocese Mrs Judith Meaden spoke on the theme of Anniversaries using the story of Hannah, wife of Eli, who longed and prayed for a child. When her prayer was answered she rejoiced by giving her son Samuel to serve the Lord in the Temple. Every year she visited him with her husband when they went to offer a yearly sacrifice but the sacrifice of her son brought a big blessing to Israel.
The service was really joyful attended by about 70 people from the Deanery. 4 new members were enrolled and the Mother’s Union choir sang the Anthem ‘All are welcome’ and the blessing ‘May the Grace of Christ our Saviour’.
It was followed by a wonderful tea and chance to talk together in the Parish rooms.
